Drifting Away

Drifting Away

Sit by a river in your mind.

You are still, the water flows by.

Your thoughts are tiny paper boats.

Release them one by one.

Watch as the water

gently carries them away.

There goes a worry.

There goes a “what if”.

There goes a painful thought.

There goes a “should”.

As thoughts come,

send them on their way.

Gently, but firmly.

Watch as they drift away

until only serenity remains.

Dallas Willard

The ultimate freedom

we have as human beings

is the power to select what we will allow

or require our minds to dwell upon.

Isaiah 26:3

You will keep in perfect peace

those whose minds are steadfast,

because they trust in you.
