Trusting God

Trusting God

Rest your hands on your lap,

palms up,

open.

Look at your open hands.

Empty.

For this moment,

you are not holding anything.

Work.

Plans.

Problems.

For this moment,

you are not holding anyone.

Family.

Friends.

Coworkers.

For this moment

you are not holding on to feelings.

Anxiety.

Worry.

Striving.

For this moment you are open.

Empty.

Trusting.

***

1 Peter 5:7

Cast your anxiety on him

because he cares for you.

***

Henri Nouwen

In the end,

a life of prayer

is a life with open hands—

a life where we need not

be ashamed of our weaknesses

but realize that it is more perfect

for us to be led by the Other

than to try to hold everything

in our own hands.
